Happy belated Star Wars Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, Pentacost, and Shavuot! We’ve finally gotten our act together and planned our garden, so we’re ending our hiatus a bit early this year! As such, here are the remaining holidays for May:
- Ramadan, Sunset May 16 to Sunset
June 15: Today marks the first day of Ramadan, the holiest month of the Islamic year. This holiday is marked by fasting during daylight hours and by abstaining from bad habits. Gifts to charity are also common during this time. These acts emphasize humility, self-control, and generosity. After dark, families go to evening prayer share a large meal together to break their fast.
- National Brother Day, May 24: If you
have a brother that you get along with, take some time out of your day to talk, hang out, and appreciate each other. If you don’t have a brother you get along with, order a pizza, put on Netflix, and enjoy being an only child, a person with sisters, or finally being old enough to have your own space.
- Memorial Day, May 28: Memorial Day
honors all those who died while serving in the military, and it is a traditional day for decorating the graves of veterans. It also marks the unofficial start of the summer season, and it is celebrated with outdoor cookouts and all manner of grilled and barbecued food. Although Memorial Day also marks the season where wearing white becomes fashionable again, we at GRL do not recommend it when attending a Memorial Day pig roast.
Happy Spring!
